ANNABELLE

Finally a movie that will send chills down your spine this Halloween season. Annabelle is an American horror film directed by John R. Leonetti. The film is both a prequel to and spin-off of The Conjuring. The film stars Annabelle Wallis playing the role of Mia, Ward Horton as John, Tony Amendola as Father Perez and Alfre Woodard as Evelyn.

The plot starts when at night a pregnant Mia hears strange noises from her neighbor’s house and alerts her husband, John, to investigate the situation. After her husband checks their neighbor’s house he tells Mia to call for help because there is blood everywhere. As Mia starts calling she is startled by a woman who looks disheveled and is coming from the baby’s room and is holding a doll and tells Mia how much she likes her doll. Then suddenly Mia is viciously attacked by a man who stabs her in the stomach. Just as she is being stabbed her husband comes to her rescue and the cops come and open fire on the two attackers. Later on in the film we find out that the people that attacked Mia and her neighbor’s were involved in a cult. As for the rest of the movie you have to see it to understand how this doll somehow becomes possessed.

Later on in the film you see how Mia, now a mother, sees that she is experiencing things that are not normal around her and the house that she is living in. Bringing her to suspicions that there is some kind of a haunting or demonic possession in the house, and us as the viewers can see that she is not imagining things. Her husband is a doctor, so what is a doctor supposed to believe when his wife is telling him that she is experiencing, anxiety, panic attracts and fear? As a doctor he tries to make a medical diagnostic that maybe she is experiencing postpartum depression or some psychotic behavior that can be diagnosed as a condition. Later on the husband realizes that all his logical medical experience is challenged by what he encounters and that there is some kind of evil roaming around their family.

The movie has many moments of suspense and fear. The sewing machine builds a lot of tension for the viewers. Let’s not forget about Annabelle, that doll really knows how to keep you in suspense and if you think the doll will actually make any sudden movement, please keep waiting for it or maybe not. If you suffer from anxiety or repressed memories of what the devil or a demon looks like, let’s just say this is not the movie for you to watch. The movie is not only scary, but the suspense moments that are shown every 10-15 minutes of the film will set you off wanting to take a Xanax or some organic tea to calm your nerves down. Spoiler alert; guess who dies at the end of this film…. If you know Hollywood and you have a sarcastic way of seening how movies throughout time usually play out, then maybe just maybe you will figure out who will be the victim.

Annabelle is now in theaters.
