Entertainment Affair had the opportunity to be on the set of the upcoming film “Insidious: Chapter 3”. During this visit, we were able to talk with Stefanie Scott who plays Quinn and Director, Writer and Actor Leigh Whannell.

A prequel set before the haunting of the Lambert family that reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

When we talked with Scott on set, with a beaten up make-up and on a wheelchair ready for her scene, we asked her what happened to her character to end up like that. “My character was in a really bad accident and this is actually how the story develops,” she said.

The story starts, when Quinn decides to contact her dead mother, but instead of contacting her, she contacts something so evil, that makes her go through hell. “My character goes through horrible things, especially after she has this horrible accident. She is having a tough year.. she lost her mother on an accident and now is involved in a paranormal situation, which is frightening for her. Which I understand, because it would definitely creep me out in real life,” added Scott.

And the person behind all this is Leigh Whannell. “Insidious: Chapter 3” is his directorial debut and not only that... he also wrote the screenplay and you will also see him on screen as well. “Yes...first time directing ever and definitely first time doing all three at the same time. I can barely walk and breathe at the same time. I don’t know how I’m managing how to do this,” said Whannell.

Since we were intrigued, we asked Whannell why a prequel for “Insidious: Chapter 3” instead of a sequel. “This prequel brings a new family, new characters, but it has a strong focus on Elise and it’s no secret that she died at the end of the first film. And I think that doing a prequel allowed me a lot more room, creatively in the writing. I love Elise as a character, especially Lin Shaye as an actress. So I wanted to see Lin Shaye alive and I wanted to dig into her back story.Which is really good and really exciting to scrub the back board of the origin story,” explained Whannell.

Whannell as a Director, according to Scott, has been the best, “He is the best. This is actually his directorial debut. He knows exactly what he wants, I think because he is an actor. This is his movie, he wrote all of it. I just love coming to work every single day and getting to work with him. He’s great. He’s really, really great.”

To finalize, we asked Whannell, if the first and second film are connected, in some way or another to the other films. “Yeah.. it is in a way. But not crazy glued connected as the first two. The first two almost play like one film. You can really edit them together and watch it as one sort of a three and half hour movie. This is not, so much like that, but there are different connections to the world of Insidious.

People who are fans of the first two, will see things and maybe even pick up on things that more casual viewers don’t. You know, hopefully there’s an Easter egg in there, hidden for the more hard-core Insidious fans. But I would say, that in general, there is a connection to the first two,” he added.

Insidious: Chapter 3 in theaters June 2015.
