FOX Announces New Primetime Series for 2017-2018 Season

Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs, Fox Television Group, announced the FOX primetime slate for the 2017-2018 television season to the national advertising community during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre.

The new dramas joining the schedule this fall are THE GIFTED and THE ORVILLE. The new comedy joining the lineup this fall is GHOSTED. Additionally, FOX and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television will partner with acclaimed film, television and theater producer Marc Platt (GREASE: LIVE, “La La Land,” “Wicked”) on the LIVE musical event A CHRISTMAS STORY.

In 2018, additional new series joining the schedule include dramas 9-1-1 and THE RESIDENT and comedy LA TO VEGAS.

THE GIFTED
Premieres on Monday, October 2 at 9/8c

ABOUT THE SHOW: Family adventure series THE GIFTED, from 20th Century Fox Television in association with Marvel Television, tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.  Written by Matt Nix (APB, “Burn Notice”), directed by Bryan Singer (the “X-Men” franchise”) and executive-produced by Nix, Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Wolverine”), Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”), Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”).

THE ORVILLE

ABOUT THE SHOW: From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted,” “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey”), THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of everyday life.

The following new comedy will debut this fall on FOX:

GHOSTED
Premieres Sunday, October 1 at 8:30/7:30c

ABOUT THE SHOW: A new comedy from 20th Century Fox Television, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Gettin’ Rad Productions, a cynical skeptic (Craig Robinson), and a genius “true believer” in the paranormal (Adam Scott), are recruited by a secret government agency to look into the rampant “unexplained” activity in Los Angeles -- all while uncovering a larger mystery that could threaten the existence of the human race. Craig Robinson and Adam Scott will both serve as executive producers, in addition to starring. Other EPs are Naomi Scott, Oly Obst, Mark Schulman and Tom Gormican (“That Awkward Moment”), who penned the pilot. Kevin Etten (“Workaholics,” “Scrubs,” “Desperate Housewives”) has signed on as showrunner and will also serve as an exec producer.

Live Musical Event “A Christmas Story” Premieres Sunday, December 17:

A CHRISTMAS STORY

ABOUT THE SHOW: From Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television, the three-hour live television event, inspired by the holiday classic feature “A Christmas Story” and the Tony Award-nominated Broadway production “A Christmas Story: The Musical,” will be executive-produced by award-winning film, television and theater producer Marc Platt (“Grease: Live,” “La La Land”). The epic adaptation will be filmed at the historic Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank.
CAST: Emmy Award nominee Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live,” “Bridesmaids”) will star as the mother of nine-year old “Ralphie Parker.” Additional casting information to be announced soon.

 

The following new dramas will debut in midseason on FOX:

9-1-1

ABOUT THE SHOW: From prolific creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, new procedural drama 9-1-1 is a fast-paced exploration into the lives and careers of first responders – cops, paramedics, firefighters – the people who put their lives on the line to save others. Starring Emmy Award and Golden Globe-nominated actor Peter Krause (“The Catch,” “Six Feet Under”) and Academy and Emmy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Angela Bassett (“American Horror Story,” “What’s Love Got to Do with It”), the series is based on the real-life, high-pressure experiences of emergency response providers who are thrust into heart-stopping situations that are equal parts unpredictable, intense and uplifting.

THE RESIDENT

ABOUT THE SHOW: From 20th Century Fox Television, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Fuqua Films, a tough, brilliant senior resident guides an idealistic young doctor through his first day, pulling back the curtain on what really happens, both good and bad, in modern-day medicine. Written by Amy Holden Jones (Black Box), Hayley Schore, and Roshan Sethi.  Philip Noyce (Revenge) directed the Pilot. Oly Obst and Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) produce.
CAST: Matt Czuchry as Dr. Conrad Hawkins, Emily VanCamp as Nicolette Nevin, Manish Dayal as Dr. Devon Pravesh, Shaunette Renée Wilson as Dr. Mina Okafor, Valerie Cruz as Renata Lopez and Bruce Greenwood as Dr. Randolph Bell

LA TO VEGAS

ABOUT THE SHOW: From 20th Century Fox Television and Gary Sanchez Productions, LA>Vegas is an ensemble workplace comedy about an airline crew and the eccentric passengers who, every weekend, take the roundtrip flight from Burbank to Las Vegas with one goal in mind – to come back a winner. Created by Lon Zimmet who wrote the pilot and will serve as executive producer with Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy and Steve Levitan. The pilot was directed by Levitan, co-creator of “Modern Family.”
CAST: Kim Matula as Ronnie, Ed Weeks as Colin, Nathan Lee Graham as Bernard, Olivia Macklin as Nichole with Peter Stormare as Artem and Dylan McDermott as Captain Dave
