YouTube today announced the expansion of YouTube TV -- a new way to enjoy your favorite TV programming outside of a traditional cable subscription -- into 14 new U.S. markets. Now, YouTube TV is available to 50% of U.S. households with the most live local broadcast stations in markets where YouTube TV is available. The new metro areas include: Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Columbus, OH, Jacksonville-Brunswick, Las Vegas, Louisville, Memphis, Nashville, Pittsburgh, San Antonio, Seattle-Tacoma, Tampa-St. Petersburg-Sarasota and West Palm Beach-Ft. Pierce. YouTube TV now offers the most markets with all four live local broadcast feeds from ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC.

YouTube TV is also expanding its network lineup for no additional charge to include next-generation national news network Newsy and the Tennis Channel, just in time for the 2017 US Open. Members in Boston will also be able to watch their Red Sox chase the pennant on NESN at no additional charge.

YouTube is also announcing that YouTube TV will soon expand into 17 additional markets in the coming weeks, including greater metro areas of: Austin, Birmingham, Cleveland-Akron, Denver, Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek, Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem, Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, Hartford-New Haven, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News, Oklahoma City, Raleigh-Durham, Salt Lake City, San Diego and St. Louis. With the continued expansion of YouTube TV, millions more people are able to stream live sports, live local news and must-see shows from top broadcast and cable networks.

YouTube TV delivers live content to viewers in a way that suits their mobile and flexible lifestyles and we’re already seeing that live TV represents the majority of time spent watching on the service. YouTube TV is also now measured and reported through Nielsen’s Digital in TV Ratings and contributes directly to C3/C7 currency, providing media buyers and sellers with a more comprehensive and transparent view of audiences engaging with the service across digital devices.

YouTube TV first launched in April in five markets – New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago and Philadelphia, before expanding into an additional ten markets that included Washington, DC, Houston, Atlanta, Phoenix, Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne, Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth.

YouTube TV includes:

  • Nearly 50 networks, including live local feeds from ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, plus popular cable networks like ESPN, AMC and FX, and local sports networks from NBC Sports in 13 markets, Fox Sports in 22 markets, and now NESN in Boston.
  • A cloud DVR, with no storage limits that travels with you within in the United States so you can stream recordings on any device, whenever and wherever you want. It enables you to record live TV and never run out of storage plus record shows simultaneously, without using precious data or space on your phone. Each recording will be stored for nine months.
  • YouTube TV can be watched on any screen – mobile, tablet or computer – and easily streamed to your TV with a Google Chromecast, Chromecast built-in TV, and AirPlay through Apple TV.
  • Six accounts per household. Every YouTube TV membership comes with six accounts, each with its own unique recommendations and personal DVR with no storage space limits. You can watch up to three concurrent streams at a time.
  • Half the cost of cable with zero commitments. A YouTube TV membership is only $35 a month and there are no commitments – you can cancel anytime.

YouTube TV was built for the YouTube generation that loves live TV but wants it delivered in a way that suits their mobile and flexible lifestyles. In fact, we see more Millennials using YouTube TV than any other generational group. According to Nielsen data from Q1 2017, half of traditional TV viewers are over 49, whereas YouTube TV is seeing over half of its viewership come from 18 to 34 year old Millennials, with the service seeing seeing great traction with broader audiences as well.

YouTube TV will continue to quickly expand to cover more cities across the country in the coming weeks and months. Visit tv.youtube.com and sign up to find out when we’ll launch in your market.
