Rafael Amaya Signs Exclusive Contract With Telemundo

Renowned and talented Mexican actor, Rafael Amaya, signs an exclusive contract with Telemundo after successful starring roles in top-rated novelas and co-hosting one of the most-watched Telemundo specials.

Born in Sonora, Mexico, and raised in Baja California, Amaya has distinguished himself for his versatility in films and television series in both U.S. and Spain. This year, he played the role of “El Güero” Davila, Teresa Mendoza’s (Kate del Castillo) first love in Telemundo’s “La Reina del Sur” (Queen of the South) the highest rated novela in the network’s history. He also co-hosted the 2011 Billboard Latin Music Awards, a Telemundo special that generated high ratings, broadcast nationwide and in 45 countries around the world. In 2010, he was a lead actor of Telemundo’s primetime novela “Alguien Te Mira” playing Julian, a plastic surgeon who became a serial killer.

Before Amaya joined the world of novelas, he played in various rock bands, a talent that he combined with his background in theater in his native Tecate, Baja California. In 2000, he got his first acting job in Televisa’s telenovela entitled “La Casa en la Playa.” Since then, he took part in various novelas produced by this network, including “Sin Pecado Concebido” (2001), in which he was nominated for the Heraldo de México award as “Male Revelation of the Year” and TVyNovelas award in this same category.

Amaya’s artistic career also includes films and TV series in the United States as well as in Spain. His first motion picture was “Desnudos” (2004). He also participated in “Así del Precipicio” (2006), a film that made him the recipient of Diosa de Plata, an award given by Periodistas Cinematográficos de México (Mexico’s Film Journalists Association). Besides his notable work in Mexican TV series, such as “Los Simuladores,” “Mujeres Asesinas” and “S.O.S.,” Amaya played a part on the popular U.S. series “Ugly Betty.” In 2010, he was the lead actor of Spain’s miniseries “La Piel Azul” and he was part of the new season of “Hospital Central,” a series that aired on Tele 5.
