Max Unveils Trailer for New Original Series “Chespirito: Not Really on Purpose”
Max has officially released the trailer for its highly anticipated original biographical series, Chespirito: Not Really on Purpose, a moving tribute to the life and legacy of legendary Mexican comedian, writer, and producer Roberto Gómez Bolaños — beloved by millions as “Chespirito.” The eight-episode series premieres June 5 on Max, with new episodes released weekly.
Roberto Gómez Bolaños remains one of the most influential figures in Latin American entertainment. His iconic characters — El Chavo del 8, El Chapulín Colorado, and Dr. Chapatín — became household names across generations and continents, spreading humor, warmth, and life lessons. Now, his story is being told like never before.
Chespirito: Not Really on Purpose traces Bolaños’ journey from a young dreamer in 1950s Mexico to one of the most beloved television creators of all time. Through personal struggles, artistic ambition, and an unwavering desire to make people laugh, the series paints a portrait of the man behind the laughter.
Pablo Cruz stars as the beloved Roberto Gómez Bolaños, “Chespirito,” and brings to life his iconic characters: El Chavo del 8, El Chapulín Colorado, and Dr. Chapatín. He is joined by an outstanding cast including: Paulina Dávila as Graciela Fernández, Bárbara López as Margarita Ruíz (Doña Florinda), Arturo Barba as Rubén Aguirre (Professor Jirafales), Andrea Noli as Angelines Fernández (La Bruja del 71), Miguel Islas as Ramón Valdés (Don Ramón), Juan Lecanda as Marcos Barragán (Quico), Eugenio Bartilotti as Edgar Vivar (Señor Barriga and Ñoño), Paola Montes de Oca as María Antonieta de las Nieves (La Chilindrina), Karina Gidi as Elsa Bolaños, Rolando Breme as Mariano Casasola, and Jorge Luis Moreno as Horacio Gómez.
Renowned actors and longtime colleagues of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, María Antonieta de las Nieves and Edgar Vivar, will also make special guest appearances in the series, along with Roberto Gómez Fernández and Esteban Valdés (son of Ramón Valdés).
The series is creatively helmed by Rodrigo Santos, Julián de Tavira, and David Ruiz “Leche,” with writing led by Roberto and Paulina Gómez Fernández. Original music is composed by Camilo Froideval, and production design, costume, and cinematography ensure a rich, nostalgic portrayal of Chespirito’s world.
