Pennywise Returns in Chilling New Trailer for ‘IT: Welcome to Derry’

by EAStaff | September 24, 2025

The terrifying world of Stephen King’s IT is back on screen, as HBO has officially released the trailer for its new original drama series, IT: Welcome to Derry. The eight-episode prequel debuts Sunday, October 26 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, with episodes streaming weekly on HBO Max through the season finale on December 14.

Developed for television by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, the series expands on the mythology introduced in King’s legendary novel and the blockbuster films IT and IT Chapter Two. Andy Muschietti, who directed both films, returns to direct multiple episodes of the series, ensuring that the sinister tone and cinematic scale remain intact.

Set decades before the events of the films, IT: Welcome to Derry explores the dark origins of the town of Derry, Maine—a place where evil doesn’t just lurk in the shadows, it feeds on them. The logline teases a chilling expansion of Stephen King’s universe, promising fans a deeper dive into the forces that awaken Pennywise the Clown and the cycle of fear that grips Derry for generations.

Fans of the original films can expect the same haunting atmosphere, heart-pounding tension, and psychological horror that made Pennywise one of the most memorable villains in modern cinema. With Muschietti’s vision guiding the story, IT: Welcome to Derry promises to dig deeper into the town’s cursed history and the evil that refuses to die.

IT: Welcome to Derry premieres October 26 on HBO and HBO Max.
