TRON Day Celebration Lights the Way for the Release of ‘Tron: Ares’

by EAStaff | September 21, 2025

This Monday, September 22, marks TRON DAY—a moment to honor one of cinema’s most innovative sagas and to look ahead to its highly anticipated next chapter: Tron: Ares, arriving in theaters October 10.

For over four decades, TRON has pushed the boundaries of imagination, technology, and storytelling. From its neon-soaked origins in 1982 to the sleek modernity of Tron: Legacy in 2010, the franchise has continually redefined how audiences experience the digital frontier.

A Journey Through the Grid

The original film pioneered computer-generated imagery and brought to life the concept of a world inside the machine, introducing dazzling light cycle battles and an electronic score that became instant cultural touchstones. Nearly three decades later, Tron: Legacy reignited the Grid with breathtaking visual upgrades, Daft Punk’s iconic soundtrack, and a story centered on Sam Flynn and his father, Kevin. Audiences were once again transported into a world of identity discs, light cycles, and the eternal clash between programs and users.

The Next Evolution: Tron: Ares

Now, after 15 years, the saga returns with Tron: Ares, directed by Joachim Rønning. This chapter introduces Ares (Jared Leto), a sophisticated program who crosses into the human world, sparking profound questions about AI, identity, and humanity’s coexistence with technology.

Jeff Bridges reprises his legendary role as Kevin Flynn, joined by an all-star cast including Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Jared Leto.

Designed for IMAX, Powered by Music

For the first time in the franchise, Tron has been filmed for IMAX, with 54 minutes of expanded aspect ratio sequences that immerse audiences in both the digital realm and real-world action. Every frame has been enhanced with IMAX’s proprietary Digital Media Remastering, promising unmatched clarity, depth, and scale.

And just as Daft Punk defined the sound of Legacy, Tron: Ares introduces a new era of music with Nine Inch Nails. Their dark, industrial soundscape perfectly amplifies the film’s themes, delivering an audio experience designed specifically for IMAX’s cutting-edge sound systems.

Why TRON DAY Matters

For longtime fans and new generations alike, TRON is more than just a movie—it’s a cultural milestone. It’s about daring to imagine the future, questioning our relationship with technology, and embracing the thrill of cinematic innovation.

On TRON DAY, we honor the legacy of a franchise that redefined sci-fi, celebrate the moments that became legend—the light cycles, the glowing suits, the unforgettable music—and look forward to a new journey that begins with Tron: Ares.

The war for our world begins. Experience Tron: Ares only in theaters and IMAX October 10.
