Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi on Stepping Into ‘Predator: Badlands’
20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands marks a bold new chapter for the legendary sci-fi franchise, and at the center of it is newcomer Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, who leads the film as Dek — a young Predator outcast whose journey is equal parts brutal, emotional, and unexpectedly human. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (Prey), the film opens exclusively in theaters on November 7, 2025.
Set in the future on a remote and unforgiving planet, Badlands follows Dek as he forms an unlikely alliance with Thia, played by Elle Fanning. Together, they embark on a dangerous quest in search of the ultimate adversary. The film blends high-intensity action with surprising heart, produced by John Davis, Dan Trachtenberg, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, and Brent O’Connor.
Entertainment Affair’s Melissa Ramiz caught up with Dimitrius in Miami, where the actor was still adjusting to the surreal reality of joining a franchise with four decades of history behind it. “It feels amazing,” he shared. “I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I play a Predator.” That sense of awe came with a healthy dose of pressure — stepping into a beloved universe meant honoring what came before while helping Trachtenberg expand it in fresh ways.
For Dimitrius, the physical demands of playing Dek didn’t fully sink in until after signing the contract. The script won him over with its action-packed spectacle and unexpected emotional depth, but once training started, reality hit hard. Long hours, heavy gear, and intense choreography pushed him beyond anything he had experienced on a film set. “I had to mentally accept that this was going to be a tough job,” he said. “But you’ve got a mission. This is an iconic character. Get to work.”
One of the challenges that bonded the cast was Dimitrius literally carrying Elle Fanning throughout major sequences of the film. The two were harnessed together for extended periods, often unable to detach themselves without assistance. Rather than frustration, the experience built instant camaraderie. “We got very close, very fast,” he said with a laugh. “I was lucky it was Elle — she’s an amazing person.”
The conversation ended on a playful note when Melissa asked him to teach her a bit of Dek’s Predator dialect. Dimitrius enthusiastically guided her through the growls and clicks of the language, giving her an approving nod once she managed a solid attempt. It was a light, charming moment that perfectly matched the energy of the entire chat.
With his breakout performance in Predator: Badlands, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi steps into the franchise with confidence, heart, and a fresh perspective that promises to resonate with longtime fans and newcomers alike.
