Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Sets 2026 Opening Date

by EAStaff | November 18, 2025

Los Angeles is about to unveil a major new cultural destination. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, will officially open in September 22, 2026, bringing an ambitious celebration of visual storytelling to Exposition Park.

Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with gardens by Mia Lehrer of Studio-MLA, the museum explores how illustrated stories reflect and shape the human experience. “Stories are mythology,” said Lucas, while Hobson described the museum as “a place where people can see themselves and their humanity reflected back.”

The museum’s collection includes more than 40,000 works spanning classic illustration, comic art, children’s book art, science fiction and fantasy imagery, muralism, and cinematic artifacts from Lucas’s filmmaking career. Thirty-five themed galleries will highlight universal experiences such as love, family, community, adventure, and childhood.

Located on an eleven-acre campus, the 300,000-square-foot museum will also feature two theaters, a library, dining spaces, retail, and new public green areas—positioning it as a vibrant new addition to LA’s arts and culture scene.
