Karolina Wydra & Carlos-Manuel Vesga Talk “Pluribus” & the Cost of Happiness

Vince Gilligan’s latest series, Pluribus, isn’t just asking audiences to watch—it’s asking them to think. The Apple TV+ drama imagines a world transformed by a mysterious event that links nearly every human mind, creating a global state of happiness. But for Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), that enforced bliss feels more like a loss than a gift.

Karolina Wydra, who plays Carol’s chaperone Zosia, says the show’s power lies in how present it demands viewers be. Pluribus, she explains, isn’t background TV. Every detail matters, from dialogue to character behavior, and missing a moment can mean missing the point. That intentionality extends to Zosia herself, whose precise language and calm demeanor subtly signal that something about her humanity has changed.

Carlos-Manuel Vesga’s Manousos represents the opposite end of the spectrum. Passionate and impulsive, he believes Carol’s resistance means there’s still something worth fighting for. Rather than perfectly balancing each other, Vesga describes their dynamic as one rooted in friction—debate, disagreement, and clashing worldviews that ultimately define them as human.

Both actors agree that Pluribus feels especially timely in an era shaped by AI and rapid technological change, not because it offers answers, but because it forces reflection. Is a conflict-free world truly better? Or does happiness lose meaning when it’s no longer a choice?

Blending dark humor, mystery, and psychological tension, Pluribus invites audiences to question what it really means to be human—and whether peace without freedom is worth the cost.

Pluribus is now streaming on Apple TV+ with new episodes Friday.
