Jeanine Mason on Playing a Villain With a Cause in ‘Cross’ Season 2

Alex Cross is back — and this season, justice comes with a sharper edge. The high-stakes crime thriller Cross returns for Season 2 on Prime Video February 11, 2026, launching with its first three episodes before rolling out weekly through the March 18 finale.

Among the season’s most compelling new additions is Jeanine Mason, who steps into the role of Rebecca Luz — a woman with a potential connection to the serial killings and one of the most emotionally layered characters of the season.

In her conversation with Entertainment Affair’s Raffael Alejandro, Mason opened up about stepping into darker territory for the first time. “This is the first time I’m the villain,” she shared with a mix of excitement and nerves. But Rebecca isn’t a traditional antagonist. Mason describes her as layered, wounded, and deeply motivated by love and loyalty. There’s a Robin Hood–like quality to her — someone who believes she’s fighting for justice on behalf of her family and community, even if her methods are extreme.

That complexity is what drew Mason to the role. For her, playing Rebecca meant exploring what happens when grief and devotion collide. She spoke passionately about portraying a Latina character whose motivations are rooted in protecting “su gente” — her people — ensuring they are not forgotten or dismissed. Rather than existing on the sidelines, Latinidad is woven into Rebecca’s identity and into the emotional DNA of the season itself.

Preparing for Rebecca demanded both physical and emotional transformation. Mason trained in knife work and boxing to handle the action-heavy sequences, fully committing to the role’s intensity. As a Cuban actress portraying a Mexican-American woman, she also worked carefully on dialect coaching to honor the character’s authenticity. Beyond the physical preparation, she leaned on her longtime acting coach to unpack Rebecca’s psychology — digging into the grief, anger, and devotion fueling her choices.

The result is a performance that surprises at every turn. Rebecca can be terrifying in one moment and heartbreakingly vulnerable in the next. Mason balances menace with humanity, giving audiences someone they may fear — but also understand.

Longtime fans will recognize how far Mason has come, from her early days in dance to commanding dramatic television roles. She even hinted that audiences may catch glimpses of that dance background woven into the season — a subtle reminder of the versatility that has defined her career.

Offscreen, Mason is embracing another life-changing chapter: motherhood. She recently welcomed her baby boy, Marcelo, and is now balancing the intensity of Cross promotion with the joys of being a new mom. It’s a transition she approaches with gratitude, excitement, and strong family support.

With Season 2 raising the stakes for Alex Cross, Mason’s Rebecca Luz stands out as one of the most emotionally charged forces in the story — fierce, complicated, and unapologetically driven by love for her community. Cross returns February 11 on Prime Video.
