Los Angeles-based ensemble Plenazo Tribe is celebrating a major milestone with the release of its debut album, INMIGRANTES, a vibrant and deeply personal 14-track project rooted in Puerto Rican plena and shaped by stories of migration, ancestry, identity and community.

Released August 8, INMIGRANTES captures the first chapter of a group that began with friendship and a shared desire to create, play and keep Puerto Rican culture alive in Los Angeles. Many of the songs took shape through street performances, rehearsals, community gatherings and plena circles before eventually finding their way into the studio.

“Este álbum nació desde la amistad, desde las ganas de crear, de tocar, de compartir y de seguir soñando juntos. Lo que empezó simplemente por el amor a la cultura, poco a poco se convirtió en algo mucho más grande que nosotros,” Plenazo Tribe shared. “Cada canción lleva un pedacito de nuestro camino, nuestras raíces, nuestras familias, nuestros ancestros, las ciudades que dejamos atrás y las que ahora llamamos hogar.”

That experience is reflected in the Tribe itself. The group's core members include Gabriel J Montes, Emilia Desiré Moscoso Borjas, Benneyy Beatz, Maga Shukar, Gabriela Bonet, Karla Massiell and Lu Arrospide, while its larger story has brought together artists with roots spanning Puerto Rico, Argentina, Ecuador, Cuba, France, Peru, Mexico, Colombia and the United States.

Musically, INMIGRANTES moves between traditional plena percussion and a broader contemporary sound, combining panderos and güicharo with brass, strings, bass, drums, vocals and electronic elements. At the heart of the album is the idea that migration is about more than leaving one place for another—it's also about carrying memory, rhythm, family, language and identity with you.

Across its 14 tracks, the album features collaborations with Maga Shukar, Benneyy Beatz, Dré Elijah, Karla Massiell and Gabriela Bonet, alongside songs including “Ritmo de la Plena,” “Ancestros,” “Lo que decía Abuelo,” “Panderos y Güicharo” and the title track “INMIGRANTES.” The project fittingly concludes with “La Tribu del Plenazo,” a celebration of the musicians and community at the heart of the record.

The debut arrives during a memorable year for Plenazo Tribe. Earlier in 2026, members of the group joined Bad Bunny during his Super Bowl LX halftime performance, helping bring the rhythms and spirit of Puerto Rican plena to one of the world's largest stages. The Tribe brought the celebration back home on August 8 with an immersive INMIGRANTES listening experience at Project Space Art Gallery in Los Angeles, bringing together music, visual art, food and community.

With INMIGRANTES, Plenazo Tribe isn't simply introducing its first album. The group is documenting where its members come from, where they are today and the community they've created along the way—all while carrying Puerto Rico's plena tradition forward into a new chapter.
