With just the right drama, thrill and action, and even a little a comedy, Homefront is the complete package. Director Gary Fleder and writer Sylvester Stallone bring you into the life of ex-DEA agent Phil Broker (Jason Statham),  a father who opted for a quiet life for the sake of his 10-year-old daughter Maddy (Izabela Vidovic). The quiet was good for a while until Broker’s past was right at his doorstep, literally. After moving to Louisiana, people started questioning and Phil made some enemies. One of them was the reason his past was back in his present. Gator Bodine (James Franco), who is involved in the operation of a methamphetamine manufacture sees an opportunity to get ahead and grabs it. With the help of Sheryl Mott (Winona Ryder), Gator makes a “business deal” for Broker’s location. “He sees it as a business. When he goes after Jason’s character, yea maybe he has a little fun… But it’s more than that. He sees this guy is just a key to helping his business, to helping him achieve his dream of… getting out of his town, just making something of himself which is something that we all do. You can understand the human motivation to what he is doing,” said James Franco. What his character doesn’t know is that what he created was beyond a simple arrangement.

But it’s not all thrill and kill, the father-daughter relationship is equally protective. Maddy ‘wants his father to be happy’. Then, a heartwarming scene right before the thrill strikes again. Jason Statham said, “It’s something quite sweet when you actually get good chemistry with someone and I think we got very lucky.” His co-star Izabela (with a smile) agreed and said, “Yeah, we did.” But her character is not just the girl who looks after daddy. When bullying becomes an issue at school, she uses her skills of self-defense, which would teach most kids her age to stay out of her away.  This rising starlet has made her mark on the big screen, but she’s already farther than most of her generation, as she has already written and directed her own anti-bullying film.

The mother of the bully, Cassie Klum (Kate Bosworth), who was a drug addict, was the one who initiated the confrontation between her brother Gator and Phil. However, Klum is not to blame as she is simply damaged and a victim of drug abuse. Kate Bosworth said, “How heart breaking to sit in your room at 16 and have these dreams for yourself and think I wanna get out of this town one day… Then flash to the point where you haven’t done them… And you’re living this pain and, how then do you cope? That’s ultimately when, you know, she decided to do meth and started to abuse herself that way”. She added, “For me, the interest in playing this character was connecting to the humanity and to also not strip her of her dignity.”

In the end, you can always count on Statham to save the day. Initially, however screenwriter Sylvester Stallone would have saved the day, but when he couldn’t do it, he knew just the man to call. Jason Statham ‘feels honored to have the part’ and said, “He’s such a prolific writer… Instead of just concentrating on a couple of characters, you know, he fills the whole story with great roles.”

An edge-of-your seat action thriller, a great story and a good sense of humor are the perfect combination for an excellent cast of talented actors. All together, Homefront is the perfect action movie for the Holidays.

Homefront plays in theaters starting today, November 27.
