With just days to go before Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters, the cast and filmmakers gathered in New York City for a global virtual press conference to discuss the highly anticipated next chapter in Peter Parker's story.

Joining the conversation were Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, director Destin Daniel Cretton, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, and producer Amy Pascal, who offered new insight into the film's emotional themes, returning characters and exciting new additions—all while carefully avoiding major spoilers.

Peter Parker Faces His Toughest Emotional Journey

Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker begins this new chapter completely alone after the world forgets who he is.

According to Holland, audiences will meet Peter during "the darkest chapter of his life," as the young hero struggles with isolation while Spider-Man himself has become more beloved than ever by New York City. The actor explained that the film explores the importance of community and friendship while showing the emotional consequences of trying to face life's challenges alone.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton added that the title Brand New Day represents Peter's search for hope and a genuine fresh start, something the character must earn throughout the story.

A More Personal Spider-Man Story

After the multiverse spectacle of Spider-Man: No Way Home, producer Amy Pascal revealed that the creative team intentionally decided to tell a much smaller, character-driven story.

Rather than trying to make the sequel even bigger, the filmmakers wanted to return Spider-Man to his roots by focusing on Peter Parker's personal life and everyday struggles in New York City.

Kevin Feige echoed that sentiment, saying the film brings Spider-Man back to New York in a way fans haven't truly experienced since the character joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also teased spectacular action sequences alongside the grounded storytelling.

MJ and Ned Begin Again

With Peter erased from everyone's memories, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon explained that MJ and Ned have unknowingly continued building their lives without him.

Zendaya described filming scenes with Holland as "a fun acting exercise," imagining what their characters would be like if they had never met Peter before. She also noted an interesting role reversal, explaining that MJ has inherited Peter's optimism while Peter himself has become far more pessimistic after the events of the previous film.

Jon Bernthal Brings The Punisher Into Spider-Man's World

One of the film's biggest surprises is the long-awaited live-action pairing of Spider-Man and Frank Castle.

Jon Bernthal admitted he was initially protective of bringing the Punisher into a PG-13 Spider-Man film, but praised the filmmakers for respecting both characters and embracing the tonal differences rather than avoiding them.

Holland added that their opposing approaches to crime-fighting create one of the film's most compelling relationships and credited Cretton for finding the perfect balance between Spider-Man's hopeful outlook and the Punisher's darker methods.

Sadie Sink Joins the MCU

Although Marvel continues to keep Sadie Sink's character under wraps, the actress spoke about how surreal it felt joining one of Hollywood's biggest franchises.

She revealed she spent considerable time discussing the character with Cretton before filming began and described the cast as incredibly welcoming throughout production.

Feige also shared that Sink ultimately inspired the creative team's decision about which comic book character would appear in the film, saying the role evolved specifically because of her casting.

Spider-Man and Hulk Finally Share the Screen

Fans will also see Spider-Man team up with Mark Ruffalo's Hulk.

Cretton praised the chemistry between Holland and Ruffalo, while Holland laughed about filming the motion-capture scenes, joking that he simply had to "trust the process" while acting opposite Ruffalo in full performance-capture gear.

Tom Holland Reflects on 10 Years as Spider-Man

Closing out the press conference, Holland reflected on nearly a decade of playing Peter Parker and thanked the fans who have supported every chapter of his journey.

"The fans are as much a part of this process as we are," Holland said, adding that he remains incredibly proud of the film and believes Brand New Day delivers something fresh while staying true to the heart of Spider-Man.
