From writer/director James Gunn comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ superhero action adventure “The Suicide Squad,” featuring a collection of the most degenerate delinquents in the DC lineup.

Entertainment Affair recently joined Gunn along with cast members John Cena, Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion, Idris Elba, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Juan Diego Botto, Margot Robbie, Daniela Melchior, Sylvester Stallone, Jai Courtney, Mayling Ng, Michael Rooker, David Dastmalchian, Joel Kinnaman, Joaquin Cosio, producers Charles Roven and ‎Peter Safran for a virtual press conference to discuss the film. It was definitely the most fun Zoom call I’ve been on in this whole pandemic. Check out a few highlights of the event below.

Producer Peter Safran commented on James Gunn’s unique vision. “It was actually pretty easy, because James came in with a real, just unbelievable clarity of vision in terms of what he wanted to accomplish,” Safran told the press conference. “What he pitched to us that very first time is exactly what you see on the screen today. And it never changed.”

Gunn assembled a cast that is a mix of returning and new characters to the series. Relative newcomer Daniela Melchior plays Ratcatcher 2. When asked about the experience of working with an established cast she said, “I just had to pretend that I’m not their biggest fan. I just had to pretend ‘Oh yes. Like another day in the office.’”

The Suicide Squad marks Margot Robbie’s third time playing Harley Quinn. “I loved getting to play Harley who is in the mindset of like ‘single and ready to mingle,’” she said. “I haven’t played that version of Harley before. She’s always been very committed to Mr. J or just fresh out of the breakup with Mr. J.”

Gunn admitted that he’d always wanted to work with Idris Elba. “I wrote Bloodsport for Idris,” he said. “I wanted him to star in this movie, so it wasn’t a matter so much of who the character was, it was, ‘Let’s find a character that’s obscure and build as our own cinematic creation for Idris.”

Pete Davidson joked about the size of John Cena’s package (a scene that features the actor in his underwear became a running gag throughout the press conference). “Yo bro, your d*ck is huge!” quipped Davidson, who plays Blackguard in the film. “I saw a screening of the movie, you have a huge piece, dude.”

“There are so many talented character, actors and professionals,” Cena replied. “We just spent a good solid half a minute or more talking about my d*ck. I’m very happy about that.”

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters and on HBO Max August 6!
