The wizarding world is officially taking shape. HBO has released the first teaser for its upcoming original Harry Potter series and confirmed that the eight-episode first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will debut at Christmas 2026 on HBO and stream on HBO Max in available markets. The announcement was made at the HBO Max UK & Ireland launch event ahead of the platform’s rollout there.

The series will follow Harry’s first journey into Hogwarts after spending his childhood under the care of Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon, opening the door to a magical world filled with friendship, wonder, and danger. According to HBO, the first season adapts Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, signaling a more book-faithful longform approach to the beloved franchise.

Leading the cast are Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, with John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid. The ensemble also includes Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick, alongside a wide lineup of Hogwarts students, staff, and key wizarding world characters.
