Olivia Munn Talks Sam’s Redemption Arc in “Your Friends & Neighbors” Season 2
Your Friends & Neighbors returns with higher stakes, deeper emotions, and even more intrigue as Season 2 premieres globally April 3 on Apple TV. Led by Jon Hamm and created by Jonathan Tropper, the dark comedy-crime drama continues to build on its addictive mix of scandal, secrets, and social warfare—this time with James Marsden joining the cast as a mysterious new neighbor who shakes things up in a big way.
At the center of the chaos is Samantha “Sam” Levitt, played by Olivia Munn, a character who became one of the most fascinating and polarizing figures in Season 1. Speaking with Entertainment Affair’s Raffael Alejandro, Munn opened up about stepping back into Samantha’s complicated world and why Season 2 pushes her character further than ever before.
“We got so much love for the first season,” Munn shared, reflecting on the show’s breakout success. “But with that comes the pressure to really deliver the second time around.” According to Munn, creator Jonathan Tropper raises the stakes immediately by introducing Marsden’s character, describing him as a larger-than-life presence filled with mystery, wealth, and intrigue—an energy that disrupts the already fragile dynamics of the suburban world.
For Samantha, however, Season 2 is less about power and more about survival.

After the fallout of Season 1, Samantha finds herself navigating a brutal emotional landscape. “She’s feeling regret, shame, anger, frustration—everything all at once,” Munn explained. “And she’s determined to get back into this social group and earn forgiveness, no matter how long it takes.” That drive becomes even more intense as the consequences of her past actions ripple outward, affecting not just her reputation but her family as well.
What makes Samantha so compelling is that she refuses to stay down. As Munn describes it, the character transforms into a fighter, someone willing to endure rejection and humiliation if it means reclaiming her place. But that journey comes with a harsh realization—one that reshapes her identity moving forward.
“At this point, she realizes she never needed a man to get where she wants to go,” Munn said. “She has to do this alone.” That independence, however, is complicated by the arrival of Marsden’s character, whose presence forces Samantha to confront deeper issues of trust—not just in others, but in herself.
“She doesn’t trust anyone anymore,” Munn added. “And she doesn’t even trust herself, because the decisions she’s been making haven’t been in her best interest.”

That internal conflict becomes a defining thread throughout the season, as Samantha navigates life on the outside of the elite social circle she once ruled. The show continues to blend high-society drama with a whodunnit mystery, with Samantha remaining deeply tied to the central storyline following her husband’s death and the lingering secrets surrounding it.
Despite the show’s focus on wealth, scandal, and middle-aged relationships, its appeal continues to reach a surprisingly wide audience. Munn recalled overhearing a group of college students passionately discussing the series—something she never expected. “It just shows how broad the audience really is,” she said. “People from all different ages are connecting with it.”
With its mix of dark humor, emotional complexity, and sharp social commentary, Your Friends & Neighbors has quickly become one of the standout dramas on Apple TV, earning critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase. And with an early Season 3 renewal already secured, it’s clear that the story is far from over.
Season 2 premieres April 3 with new episodes dropping weekly through June 5—setting the stage for Samantha Levitt’s most intense chapter yet.
