‘Off Campus’ Creator Louisa Levy Talks Bringing Elle Kennedy’s Romance to Life

At first glance, Off Campus may seem like a college romance built around hockey, but creator Louisa Levy says the Prime Video series was always meant to be much bigger than that.

In a conversation with Entertainment Affair’s Raffael Alejandro, Levy discussed adapting Elle Kennedy’s bestselling book series for television, explaining that what immediately drew her in was the strong character work and the clear potential for an ongoing, emotionally driven series. While romance remains at the heart of the story, she saw an opportunity to build a larger universe where different relationships and storylines could continue evolving beyond a single happily-ever-after.

One of the biggest surprises about Off Campus is how central music becomes to the storytelling. Levy described music as a defining emotional thread throughout the series, particularly in shaping Hannah and Garrett’s connection, while also helping establish the tone and personality of Briar University itself.

She also spoke about intentionally weaving nostalgia into the DNA of the show, pulling inspiration from beloved classics like Dirty Dancing, early 2000s romantic comedies, and subtle John Hughes-style references. That mix of old-school romantic energy and contemporary storytelling was designed to make the series feel familiar while still connecting with a new generation of viewers.

But Off Campus isn’t just targeting younger audiences. Levy explained that the show was built with broader appeal in mind, tapping into both the excitement of college years for younger viewers and the nostalgia of looking back for older ones.

And with Prime Video already renewing the series for Season 2, Levy confirmed the momentum is only growing, with the next chapter already moving toward production.

All eight episodes of Off Campus are now streaming on Prime Video.
