COASTCITY Evolve Their Caribbean Soul Sound With New Single “Salvaje”

by EAStaff | March 2, 2019

2018 was a pivotal year for COASTCITY in which their music, production and innovative sound resonated and was acknowledged by both a growing fanbase and the industry. The duo, who pioneered the genre "Caribbean Soul," garnered a series of accolades as well as major media placements and opportunities to showcase their music across iconic venues across the U.S. and Mexico as well as open for major artists such as Silk City and Ha*Ash.

"Salvaje" is a feelgood party song with a primal sexual vibe. It's about the hunt and desire we experience when we are insanely attracted to someone and the animal in us comes out for the taking. Certain parts of the song were written with the live show in mind which takes you on a ride," explains Jean Rodriguez, lead vocals and producer.

"Salvaje" was created between L.A. and Miami and foreshadows the musical direction of forthcoming EP in which the duo hones in on their Caribbean soul sound. The production on this track is definitely evident of their progression since their self-titled debut EP both as producers and songwriters.

We also hear Danny Flores, producer and keys, make his debut on the vocals on the latter half of the song. "It's a song that has taken us years to feel comfortable producing...a record where melodically it has jibaro (colloquial term in Puerto Rico for farmer) influences - Puerto Rican folkloric classic melodies - yet a beat that rubs shoulders with what's happening in the urban Latin world. The electric guitar at the top of the song is signature to COASTCITY and "el güiro" (percussion instrument) keeps things flowing through the transitions. It's a fusion of R&B, Salsa, and Urban music which is our signature sound," says Danny Flores.

"Salvaje" will be released via EMPIRE and available on all streaming platforms as of March 1st.
