The Schwartz is officially back. Amazon MGM Studios brought Spaceballs: The New One to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, delivering one of the convention's biggest crowd-pleasing moments with the triumphant return of Rick Moranis to the franchise that made his portrayal of Dark Helmet an instant comedy icon.

The packed Hall H audience erupted into a standing ovation as Moranis made his surprise entrance. Rather than being introduced in the traditional fashion, a squad of Spaceballs Troopers searched the crowd for Dark Helmet impersonators before revealing the real Dark Helmet hidden among the fans—a reveal that instantly became one of Comic-Con's most memorable moments.

The panel began with a heartfelt and hilarious video message from legendary filmmaker Mel Brooks, before moderator Kevin Smith welcomed director Josh Greenbaum, stars Daphne Zuniga, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, Josh Gad, and screenwriters Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit to the stage.

Throughout the conversation, Gad and Greenbaum reflected on pitching the long-awaited sequel to Brooks, while Moranis and Zuniga shared what it was like returning to their iconic characters and reuniting with Brooks for the first time in decades.

Although Bill Pullman couldn't attend in person, the original Lone Starr still made an appearance via a special prerecorded video message. Lewis Pullman also spoke about joining the franchise that helped launch his father's career, describing the experience as both surreal and meaningful.

Keke Palmer discussed stepping into the beloved sci-fi comedy universe and helping introduce a new generation of characters to the galaxy, while Josh Gad paid tribute to the late John Candy, calling the legendary comedian the "heart and soul" of the original Spaceballs and one of his greatest comedic inspirations.

The sequel looks poised to embrace everything fans love about the 1987 cult classic while affectionately skewering today's reboot-heavy Hollywood landscape with the same irreverent humor that made the original a fan favorite.

While Hall H has delivered countless blockbuster reveals over the years, few moments generated the emotional response sparked by Rick Moranis' return.
