First Look at ‘Whalefall’ Sees Austin Abrams Swallowed by a Giant Whale

20th Century Studios has released the first teaser for Whalefall, offering a gripping look at the upcoming survival thriller based on Daniel Kraus' acclaimed novel. Directed by Brian Duffield, the film combines emotional family drama with high-stakes suspense as one young man finds himself fighting for survival in an unimaginable situation.

The film stars Austin Abrams as Jay Gardiner, a young diver searching for the remains of his late father off California's Central Coast. What begins as a deeply personal journey quickly turns into a nightmare when Jay is swallowed by a massive sperm whale.

With only one hour of oxygen remaining, Jay must draw upon the lessons his father, played by Josh Brolin, taught him throughout his life. Trapped inside the whale and facing impossible odds, he discovers that those hard-earned lessons may be his only chance of escaping alive.

The film also stars Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd.

Based on the bestselling novel by Daniel Kraus, Whalefall is directed by Brian Duffield, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kraus. The film is produced by Brian Grazer, Brian Duffield, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum.

The newly released teaser offers only a glimpse of the film's terrifying premise, but it immediately establishes the scale, emotion, and claustrophobic tension that audiences can expect when the story arrives on the big screen.

Whalefall opens exclusively in theaters on October 16.
