Focus Features Unleashes the Official Trailer for Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’

by EAStaff | June 29, 2026

Following the critical and commercial success of Nosferatu in 2024, acclaimed filmmaker Robert Eggers returns to the horror genre with Werwulf, and the newly released official trailer promises another chilling descent into darkness.

Set against a bleak medieval backdrop, Werwulf is described as Eggers' most visceral and haunting experience yet—a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation, and the devil within. The eerie first trailer embraces the filmmaker's signature blend of historical authenticity, unsettling atmosphere, and psychological horror while teasing a terrifying new folklore-inspired nightmare.

The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, and Lily-Rose Depp, reuniting Eggers with two familiar collaborators following Nosferatu. Eggers also co-wrote the screenplay with longtime creative partner Sjón, continuing the collaboration that previously brought audiences The Northman.

The trailer's ominous tagline, "Do not dread the darkness. Embrace it," sets the tone for what appears to be another unforgettable gothic horror experience from one of the genre's most distinctive filmmakers.

With haunting imagery, chilling tension, and Eggers' unmistakable visual style on full display, Werwulf is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated horror releases of the year.

Werwulf opens exclusively in theaters on December 25.
