‘Masters of the Universe’ Lights Up LA with Record-Breaking Drone Show

Eternia didn’t just call—it took over the Los Angeles skyline. In one of the boldest movie marketing activations of the year, Amazon MGM Studios brought Masters of the Universe to life in spectacular fashion with a massive drone show over Hollywood Forever Cemetery, transforming the LA night sky into a glowing tribute to the iconic franchise just weeks ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
Held on May 19, the large-scale activation was designed as the centerpiece of the film’s global marketing campaign—and it absolutely delivered. The event officially set a new Guinness World Record for the Brightest Drone Show Ever (Most Powerful Drone Show Ever), elevating what could have been a traditional promotional stunt into a full-scale theatrical spectacle.

Using approximately 1,600 drones, the synchronized display brought the legendary battle between He-Man and Skeletor to life overhead, with towering illuminated imagery inspired by the beloved franchise. The spectacle also featured pyro drones and one of the world’s most advanced entertainment lasers, creating a visually explosive experience that felt every bit as oversized as the world of Eternia itself.
One of the standout moments came as the sky lit up with iconic Masters of the Universe imagery, including the Sword of Power crackling with energy and the unforgettable rallying cry: “By the power of Grayskull, I have the power!” For longtime fans who grew up with He-Man, the event felt less like a movie promotion and more like a nostalgic celebration decades in the making.

Following on-site verification, a Guinness World Records adjudicator officially presented the record to the team, with filmmaker Travis Knight on hand for the celebration.
The upcoming live-action adventure reimagines the legendary Mattel franchise for a new generation, following Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, as he returns to Eternia after years away to confront Skeletor and embrace his destiny as He-Man. The film also stars Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin, and Jared Leto.
Masters of the Universe opens exclusively in theaters June 5.
