Spain’s Oscar Entry ‘La Bola Negra’ Releases Original Song ‘La Nieve’
La Bola Negra is heading into awards season with another reason to listen.
Following its selection as Spain’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards, the upcoming drama from Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi has released “La Nieve,” a new original song performed by Guitarricadelafuente and written specifically for the film.
The song marks another major contribution to the project from the Spanish singer-songwriter, who also makes his acting debut in La Bola Negra as Sebastián. “La Nieve” was created for the film and arrives ahead of its U.S. theatrical release on October 16.
The Oscar selection adds to a growing awards-season profile for La Bola Negra. The film made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, where Calvo and Ambrossi, collectively known as Los Javis, shared the Best Director prize.
Spanning three generations across different periods of Spanish history, La Bola Negra explores love, identity and legacy in a story inspired in part by the work of Federico García Lorca.
Guitarricadelafuente leads an international ensemble that also includes Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas and Julio Torres, with Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close among the cast.
With Spain now officially backing La Bola Negra in the International Feature Film race, the release of “La Nieve” puts an additional spotlight on Guitarricadelafuente as both an actor and musical contributor to one of the country’s major awards-season titles.
La Bola Negra opens in U.S. theaters on October 16, 2026.
